Far and Away...The world is your oyster with today’s travel options and reasonably priced flights offered to get you around the globe. We live in a greatly privileged society having access to skiing, tropical beaches and jungle trekking with just a few hours travel. I urge you to make the most of it but I offer words of caution (that’s my job!) even if you are just embarking on a booze cruise to Calais. In the event of an unfortunate accident away from home (or mosquito bite gone septic) you will find things much easier (and affordable) to cope with if you have proper travel insurance.

When choosing your policy I know you won’t say no to some cost saving tips…..
Things can go wrong when you go on holiday. You could have an accident or get sick. Your luggage and money could be lost or stolen. Your trip could be cut short by injury or illness or it may even be neccessary for your family to fly out to be with you in the event of a serious illness or accident. Get insurance!

It is surprising how many people don’t take out adequate travel insurance or any at all when they go away, most believe that other insurance policies they hold will cover them but this is simply not be sufficient. For example having credit card accident cover, private health care, or home insurance is not adequate enough travel insurance cover for your trip.

Barcelona!!!!!!

There are few places within an hour and a half travel time that offer a cosmopolitan culture, world renowned architecture, gigantic parks, and a beach. City breaks are not everyone’s cup of tea but I think Barcelona has something for everyone and warrants more than one visit to really drink in the culture.

To get you on your way check out flight provider’s websites for departures from your regional airport as Barcelona is becoming more accessible with demand. When you get to Barcelona you will find the underground clean and reliable, coach routes are actually convenient and taxi’s less expensive than your average European city. The choice of accommodation is extensive ranging from budget two stars near Las Ramblas up to beautiful five star institutions on the Paseig de Gracia.

Prague - City of a hundred spires

This beautiful and intimate city is less than 3 hours away and has a great deal to offer on a budget. You can cast your eye over fine art, take a cruise on the river Vltava, sip coffee on Wenceslas Square or drink pints of Budvar on the cobbled streets. Don’t be put off by the ‘stag do’ talk as any accessible city will attract them. Flights are advertised from £39.99 on http://www.bmibaby.co.uk/, £45.98 on http://www.thomsonfly.com/ for booking fairly last minute or £79 on http://www.ba.com/ for more sociable flight times a little in advance (all including taxes).

You will be able to find basic but clean and well presented self catering apartments for as little as £35 a night in the centre of the city most of the year round. This is a great way to stay within a budget as food and drink are reasonable, a simple meal and glass of wine is about £5 or there are some great steak houses where you can eat and eat for about £15 with beer! If you prefer a hotel the competition is fierce and you will find a number of deals on the internet, I have seen advertisements for flights and three nights B&B at a 4* Hotel for £299, check out http://www.expedia.co.uk/, http://www.lastminute,com/ and http://www.thomascook.com/, these are just a few suggestions so make sure you scour google for the best deals!
